Mr. Herman James McAllister was born to Luther W. and Bessie Pipkins McAllister on September 22, 1928 in Florence, SC. He entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Commander Nursing Center, after an extended illness.
He attended the public schools of Florence County and was formerly employed with American Bakery (Merita) until he retired. He also worked as a school crossing guard until his health declined.
Herman was a faithful member of Mount Rona Missionary Baptist Church, Effingham, SC and served on the Usher Board. He was also a member of Morning Light Lodge #430.
"Pop", as he was lovingly called by his friends and the neighborhood, was a caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and family member. He loved his family very much and displayed a quiet loving spirit to all he came in contact with. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Rosa Lee Ellis McAllister; son, Herman McAllister, Jr.; daughter, Ruby McNeil; and five brothers, Raleigh, Earlie, Herbert, Willie and John McAllister.
Those who shared the joys of life with him and is survived to cherish his memory are: two sons, Bobby (Pauline) McAllister and Gene Ellis of Florence, SC; ten grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; one brother, Al (Dorothy) McAllister of Effingham, SC; two sisters, Annie (Oswaldo) Irizarry of Bronx, NY; Pauline Seawright of Far Rockaway, NY, and Joe Bertha Abraham of Florence, SC; one daughter-in-law, Emma Jean Ellis; six sisters-in-law, Lishie Mae McAllister, Geneva McAllister, Leola McAllister, Dorothy Barnwell, Inez McAllister and Annie Bell McAllister; his caregiver, Barbara Frazier; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
